Botchit & Scarper

Botchit & Scarper Records was established in 1995 by business partners Vini Medley and Martin Love, the founders of pioneering Jungle record label SOUR. E-motif Recordings

Set up in September 1995 by the late Vini Medley & Company director Martin Love, as an experimental Drum and Bass label. eMotif (Part of the S.O.U.R family tree, responsible for introducing jungle music to the national charts in the mid 90’s) has released over 50 singles and four ground breaking albums (Techsteppin, Danger U.E.D, The Method & The A1-Sound carrier Part 1) to date - consistently retaining fresh appeal within the Drum and Bass ‘scene’ also an integral part of the ‘Tech step’ movement that dominated the Drum and Bass scene in the mid 90’s – eMotif continue to be innovative within the dance scene. Masters at finding the freshest talent, our history has covered major territory in siting the development & change in drum & bass. We have also worked with & helped to break major artists MC DET. Elisabeth Troy, MJ Cole (Talkin Loud), DJ Trace, Shy FX & T. Power (WARNER), Grooverider (Radio 1), Ed-rush, Ray Keith, Doc Scott, Sappo (1xtra), to name but a few.

As well as keeping a healthy ground-breaking release schedule, eMotif has involvement in London’s leading triple award winning club night ‘Movement’ and recently setting up DJ Mix competitions with the leading Technics brand and Movement, showing you that they have fingers in many pies - bringing grass roots to the over ground scene that we call DANCE MUSIC.

Recently eMotif had it’s own show on the Ministry of sound Radio online and DAB network – launched 2001 on the FM dial– this was the first time that Ministry had opened it’s door’s to this underground drum and bass scene. Also representing the drum and bass sounds on Trust the DJ / Groovetech radio / Pyrotechnic radio.

Movement

‘Movement’ was born in late 1996 at a time when the sound of Drum & Bass was beginning to polarise and nights were built around one particular ‘harder’ strain of the Drum & Bass genre.
At a launch party for ‘Techsteppin’ @ it’s first home a fortnightly residency in a private members bar, ‘Embargoes’ (Kings Road, west London) B4 moving to a thursday night residency at ‘Bar Rumba’ on Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s ‘Theatreland’ It was resolved that in order to fuel the evolution of the music a base was needed to be established for all types of the sound. Bryan Gee grabbed the name ‘Movement’ from the air (to symbolise the continued movement forward of Drum & Bass) and ‘Movement’ as we now know it had begun -

Now, seven years later, in 2004, ‘Movement’ remains roadblocked every single time. Playing host to every credible DJ in and out of the scene; from Grooverider through Goldie, Hype, Jumpin’ Jack Frost, Roni Size to Optical and everyone else in-between like Todd Terry, for example.

Over its rich seven-year history, ‘Movement’ has become a veritable dub plate testing-ground, and spread it’s wings through nights and the label to the 4 corners of the globe! hosting one-offs and tents at large-scale events like the 50,000 capacity Homelands, the 60,000 sell-out Skolbeats in Brazil and the massive Ministry of Sound Festival at Knebworth, as well as the big one-offs at clubs such as The End, Mass & Fabric in London.

This is perhaps one of the reasons why ‘Movement’ was voted Club Of The Year for the last two years consecutively at the Knowledge Magazine Awards. Indeed, Muzik, Ministry, Mixmag, The Face and a host of other top magazines have consistently placed ‘Movement’ as one of the UK’s best clubs overall in their yearly charts.

The Sound of Movement project also incorporates a radio show hosted by Bryan Gee every Thursday from 21.00 – 23.00 (GMT) playing on Ministry of Sound Radio, the largest dance music radio station in the world.

For the future, ‘Movement’ continues its work in territories all around the world – with residencies in Nottingham, Portugal and Toronto to name but a few, with resident DJ’s Bryan Gee, Marky, Addiction, Ruffstuff, Ray Keith and DJ Patife alongside the resident MCs Stamina,Darrison, Moose and IC3.
